In this festival, we once again invite you to share with us the intimacy, tradition and avant-garde of tango in the festive period between Christmas and New Year. As always Tangomagia offers beautiful locations, the best line-up of tango dancers from Buenos Aires and Europe, and every day a free Tango Café in the afternoon.
Tangueros and tangueras from all over the world will visit Tangomagia and Amsterdam. During five days and nights, Amsterdam will be the capital of Argentine Tango.
Tango is about sharing and exchanging, for which the Tangomagia festival offers a perfect relaxed and festive atmosphere.
A location that features this special atmosphere is Hotel Arena, an over 100 year old former orphanage, re-styled into one of Amsterdam's cultural hot-spots, where our guests can stay for a reduced price; a location where our daily tango café will take place, as well as one of the festival's salons. Arena will also be the place of a unique photo exhibition by Keith Widyolar. Another special event is Cinefilia Tanguera. A Short Film Event on the theme of tango in the past, at the present and in the future.
The opening night of the festival will take place in the Kompaszaal, a well-known Amsterdam tango location (see also www.tango11.nl).
This year we are proud to announce a premiere with a new grand location: the largest night of the festival will be in the brand new Rabozaal (Melkweg/Stadsschouwburg): a grand theater with a very large, 'floating' wooden dancefloor and red pluche chairs. Modern architecture, traditional comfort and excellent acoustics meet in the very center of Amsterdam (Leidseplein).
Another festival location will be De Duif, a beautifully restored church on one of Amsterdam's main canals in the city's centre. This location counts with a parquet 'floating' dance floor, suited for tireless dancing all night.
We look forward to welcome you at this 12th festival with salons at spectacular locations, workshops for all levels, a daily tango café, a line-up of famous Argentinean ánd European dance couples, and (another premiere, from Buenos Aires!) the orchestras Electrico Ardor and Ojos de Tango.
Enjoy romantic Amsterdam and its well known tango tradition of over 20 years!
